[ARCHIVED] Vickery family honored during Indian Trail Founders Day

The Indian Trail Town Council paused Tuesday night to honor one of their own while also marking the 112th birthday of Indian Trail.

Former Councilwoman Lane Vickery, who passed away in 2017, and her family are being recognized during Indian Trail Founders Day 2019. A proclamation was read during the evening’s meeting that recognized the work of Lane Vickery, her husband, Larry, and her family to make Indian Trail a better place – efforts that included championing arts and literacy in the community. Lane Vickery also worked to protect the appearance and beautification of the Indian Trail cemetery, and was a presence at a number of local civic groups and nonprofits.

“During her lifetime, Lane dedicated much of her time to working on local committees, was a Charter Member of the Union West Rotary organization, a holder of the Paul Harris Award, and in 2006, was elected to serve as a council member to the Town of Indian Trail,” read the proclamation. “The Town of Indian Trail would not be where it is today if not for the contributions and achievements of the Vickery family.”

The Founders Day celebration will continue with an event on Saturday, March 2, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Town Hall. The public is invited to come learn about the Vickery family and others that helped make Indian Trail over the past 112 years, as there will be historical games, presentations, memorabilia from the past and food and drink.

Indian Trail Town Hall is located at 315 Matthews-Indian Trail Road.
