Door-to-door sales is not a new phenomenon, but during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town has seen an increase in door-to-door sales representatives – and not all of them are with legitimate businesses. The Town, along with the Union County Sheriff’s Office, has received calls from residents who have reported aggressive sales reps and fraudulent transactions.
In response, the Indian Trail Town Council recently passed a Peddler’s Ordinance. The ordinance requires any business that wishes to sell door to door in Indian Trail to pay a $100 application fee for a 14-day permit. The business must also furnish a $1,000 bond and undergo a background check and fingerprinting.
The goal of this ordinance is to help ensure only legitimate businesses are going door to door and protect our residents from fraud and other dangers.
For information on the specifics of the ordinance or to obtain a permit, please contact the Town of Indian Trail’s Planning Department at 704.821.5401.
