Gary Evans appointed to Indian Trail Town Council

Councilman Gary Evans

Gary Evans, a community advocate who has been a staple at Town meetings over the past 11 years, was appointed to the Indian Trail Town Council on Tuesday, Aug. 8, to fill the seat vacated by Mark Wireman in July.

Evans, who held a career in law enforcement in addition to owning several small businesses of his own, is an active member of the Indian Trail and Union County nonprofit communities. He and his wife of 19 years, Loraine, are dedicated to collecting needed items for first responders during the holidays, as well as raising donations for the domestic violence awareness nonprofit and shelter Turning Point, among other causes. Evans most recently served as the guest DJ at a Senior Prom for Alzheimer’s patients at a local assisted living facility, and is a common sight at other small business and nonprofit fundraisers.

National Night Out, the annual event that honors and celebrates local emergency services personnel, also is a cause near and dear to Evans’ heart, and he was instrumental in working with the Parks and Recreation Department on the creation of Indian Trail’s annual event.

“I appreciate the confidence of the Indian Trail Town Council and Mayor Alvarez in my ability to represent the people of Indian Trail,” Evans said. “I have resided in Indian Trail since 2006, and began my involvement in Town politics shortly thereafter. Since then, I have attended many council meetings and have worked on a number of political campaigns during my life.”

Evans will serve until December 2017, when new Indian Trail Town Council members are sworn in after the November election.
