[ARCHIVED] Indian Trail seeks input on future development plan

Officials with the Town of Indian Trail and Union County are seeking feedback on what residents would like to see when it comes to development at a future intersection.

The Secrest Short Cut Small Area Plan will guide future growth near the Monroe Expressway interchange at Unionville-Indian Trail Road. The plan aims to highlight community priorities and economic development opportunities in the area, as development projects and potential rezoning petitions are already being discussed. The Monroe Expressway is expected to open in November 2018.

“We encourage all our residents, especially those living in this part of Indian Trail, to check out the Secrest Short Cut Small Area Plan and give us their feedback on the future of this area when it comes to development and land use,” Indian Trail Senior Planner Katie See said. “It’s vital that we get that input now so we can ensure resident concerns are taken into consideration in the future.”

The draft plan is available for review online at www.co.union.nc.us/departments/planning-building-development/planning-zoning/calendar/secrest-short-cut-small-area-plan. It was discussed at the Tuesday, Aug. 21, meeting of the Indian Trail Planning Board, and a video of the Planning Board meeting is available at the Town’s Youtube Channel. It will also be brought before the Indian Trail Town Council for a public hearing on Sept. 25. It was approved by the Union County Planning Board on Sept. 11, and the Union County Board of Commissioners are scheduled to discuss it on Oct. 1.

The Indian Trail Town Hall is located at 315 Matthews-Indian Trail Road.
