Boy Scouts join Indian Trail Town Council for night

Boy Scouts at Town Council

A group of local Boy Scouts had fun learning about government while debating and voting during a recent visit to the Indian Trail Town Council Chamber.

But mostly, they enjoyed the nice, comfy chairs and the power of a live mic you get as an Indian Trail elected official.

The Scouts, who are members of Pack 276, Den 3, got to sit behind the dais as honorary Council members, as Indian Trail Town Manager Patrick Sadek put them through a simulated Town Council meeting. The Scouts learned about what goes into various decisions Town Council makes on a regular basis while seeing what impact their vote could have on their community. They even got to take part in their own private meeting, adjourning to the Council Closed Session Chamber before coming out for a final vote.

“I really liked how we got the chance to feel what it’s like to be on Council, and I think Council gets a good privilege being able to do this,” one Scout said.

“I like it, but I don’t want to read all those papers,” another Scout added after learning about all that goes in to the Town’s budgeting process.

The Town of Indian Trail works closely with local Boy and Girl Scouts groups on a number of efforts throughout the year – from events like the Scouts Council educational session, to inviting Scouts to come say the Pledge of Allegiance before meetings, to seeing Scouts volunteer at events and festivals.

“We are very lucky to have so many active and engaged Scouting groups in Indian Trail, and we love every chance we get to work with them,” Indian Trail Director of Communications Mike Parks said. “We know they are dedicated to making Indian Trail a better place, and we’re excited to see them grow into our Town’s future leaders.”

The special Scouts Council meeting can be viewed on the Town’s Youtube page. Find more information on upcoming meetings and events at www.indiantrail.org.
