Public Record Request Form
Anyone may come in and inspect records free of charge
Anyone requesting a copy of a public record will be charged .10 per page
A person requesting records may not require creation or compilation of a record that does not exist (G.S.132-6.2(E))
Most of the records of municipalities are available for public inspection. Major records exempt from access include:
- Most personnel records
- Most criminal investigation records
- Letters from an attorney to a board about litigation (3 years)
- Tax records revealing a person's or entity's income or gross receipts
- Most medical records
- Minutes of closed sessions
- Public enterprise (garbage) billing records
- Anti-terrorism plans, public security plans and plans for public building infrastructure
