Michael Alvarez was first elected as Mayor of Indian Trail in 2011, and he is serving his third term in office.
Mayor Alvarez believes in putting people above politics, and he decided to run for mayor as a way to make a difference for future generations and make a positive impact on the community.
Mayor Alvarez’s goal is to work for the people and help solve problems in the community. He wants to see smart growth in Indian Trail so that it maintains a small-town feel, even as the population grows. He is active in the community, volunteering with numerous organizations and supporting various fundraisers and other activities to help residents in need.
In addition to his mayoral duties, Mayor Alvarez is the chairperson for the Union County Early College Career Advisory Board and was the president of the Union County Charter Education Association. He is attending Wingate University to complete his bachelor’s degree with a major in Sociology and a minor in religious studies and will continue with his education to earn his master’s degree.
Mayor Alvarez and his wife, Jill, have lived in Indian Trail for more than 20 years. They have three children – two daughters in college and a son in high school. The Alvarez’s are a family of animal lovers, and share their home with a variety of pets, including dogs, cats, and reptiles.
