Town of Indian Trail Receives $50,000 Donation For Crossing Paths Park - The excitement grows for the Town’s first municipal park, Crossing Paths Park, with the generous contribution from Union West Rotary Club. On Tuesday, August 10th, the Indian Trail Town Council accepted a donation in the amount of $50,000 from Union West to have naming rights for the Park’s Amphitheatre. Mayor Pro Tem Jeffrey Goodall stated that this donation “lit the fuse” for community involvement and contributions to come

Indian Trail Park Committee Hosts "Trees as an Ecosystem" Class at Local Library- Saturday, July 10th, the Indian Trail Parks, Tree, and Greenway Committee and the Union County Library teamed up to host a “Trees as an Ecosystem” class for area teens. The program is part of the “Make Waves at Your Library” national summer campaign. So far, local teens attended classes on spray paint art, make your own aquarium and trees as an ecosystem.

Indian Trail Council Approves New Park Design - At the July 13th Town Council meeting, the Town Council unanimously approved the design of a new Town of Indian Trail park and named it ‘Crossing Paths Park’. The Town’s goal is to have the Park open in the fall 2010, and will hold events in the fall of 2010 as well.

INDIAN TRAIL APPROVES NEW SOLID WASTE CONTRACT- At the June 22nd Town Council meeting, the Town Council voted to approve a new solid waste agreement. The Agreement would allow Waste Connections of North Carolina to purchase and take over Town solid waste service from Action Garbage Service. The Agreement does not become effective until Waste Connections officially agrees to purchase Action Garbage Service. -Read Full Press Release-
INDIAN TRAIL TAKES GIANT STEP TOWARD BUILDING FIRST PARK- At the June 22nd Council Meeting the Indian Trail Town Council directed staff to begin the development of a park near Indian Trail Road on property already owned by the Town. The Town Council requested staff to have the park completed within 6-months. The new park will host community events; such as movies, music, and festivals. INDIAN TRAIL CITIZENS BIKE TOWN, ASSESS BICYCLE NETWORK- The Town of Indian Trail officially kicked off its Bicycle Master Plan with a town wide Bike Audit and a day of stakeholder interviews. Citizens of varying ages and biking interests took to the streets with town staff and Bicycle Master Plan consultants in order to assess the current biking conditions in Indian Trail. Indian Trail Creates Business Retention Program - On June 8th, 2010, the Indian Trail Town Council created a new tool to assist the Town of Indian Trail to retain and recognize current long standing Indian Trail businesses. The Town Council directed staff to develop a ‘Business Hall of Fame Program’ that would enable the Town to recognize and tell long standing businesses that they are appreciated in Indian Trail. With Union County’s unemployment rate being over 10 percent, one of the Town Council’s priorities is to bring more jobs to the area.

Indian Trail Town Council Approves Budget - On June 8th, the Town Council had a budget hearing and approved the fiscal year 2010/11 budget. This budget will begin on July 1st. In the budget, the Town Council will not be increasing any taxes or fees in FY 2010/11. RAILROAD CROSSING WORK - Starting June 28, CSX Railroad will be replacing street crossings along a 27 mile corridor from Charlotte to Monroe. Work in Indian Trail includes crossings at Indian Trail Road, Wesley Chapel Stouts Road, and Hayes Road. Ray Porter, representative of CSX, estimates construction will take place the first two weeks of July. Each site will be closed between three to five days. - Read Full Press Release -

On June 8th, the Indian Trail Mayor and Town Council will hear a presentation from Indian Trail Town Manager Joe Fivas on the proposed time frame, process, and funding to develop its park system. On May 6th, the Town Council met to hear the budget recommendations from the Town Manager. In the proposed budget, the Town Council will not be increasing any Taxes or Fees in FY 2010-11.

Creation of Business Owner Advisory Committee - The mission of the Town of Indian Trail Business Owner Advisory Commission (BOAC) would be to assist staff in promoting, attracting, and retaining commercial and industrial development in the Town of Indian Trail. In doing so, it will serve to enhance the quality of life for Indian Trail citizens by creating quality jobs, increasing assessed valuation, and attracting property tax, sales tax, and other revenue generators to the community.

Town Creates "Business Development Team - In an effort to create more jobs, entrepreneur investment, and to help improve the quality of service we provide to local businesses in Indian Trail, the Town of Indian Trail has created a „One-Stop Shop‟ for businesses. This new entity will be called the „Business Development Team‟ (BDT). The BDT will consist of key Town staff and the Town Manager. INDIAN TRAIL SELECTS ABC BOARD
INDIAN TRAIL, NC – The Indian Trail Town Council has appointed three persons to the newly established Indian Trail Alcoholic Beverage Control Board. The selection was based on each applicant’s interest in public affairs, good judgment, knowledge, ability, and good moral character. There were 13 highly qualified applicants interviewed for the three Board positions.

Announcement of ABC Board Member Application Acceptance
In accordance with North Carolina General Statute 18B-700 (a-j) the Town of Indian Trail is establishing an Alcoholic Beverage Control Board (ABC Board). The Indian Trail Town Council is accepting applications to appoint members of the Indian Trail ABC Board on the basis of the appointees' interest in public affairs, good judgment, knowledge, ability, and good moral character.

INDIAN TRAIL, NC -- After an intensive nationwide search that attracted 117 candidates, the Indian Trail Town Council has unanimously selected Joseph A. Fivas to serve as Indian Trail’s next Town Manager.

New Interim Town Manager Named -
The Indian Trail Town Council is pleased to announce the appointment of Peggy Piontek as Interim Town Manager effective April 29, 2009. Mrs. Piontek has been serving as Town Clerk since February 2006. She will resume her position and duties as Town Clerk once her role as Interim Town Manager is no longer required. As Interim Town Manager one of her first major tasks will be to work closely with the town Finance Director and with each department head to coordinate the development and presentation of the proposed 2009-2010 budget to the Town Council. The budget should be adopted before the end of June as the new fiscal budget year begins on July 1st.
The Council believes this internal appointment will provide continuity and stability during this transition period until our next Town Manager is hired. We know Mrs. Piontek can hit the ground running in her new role. Indian Trail is fortunate to have talented, dedicated department heads and staff who will work with and assist Mrs. Piontek in the weeks and months ahead.
With this appointment the Council may now turn their attention to the process of searching for a new Town Manager.
Indian Trail Town Manager Terminated -
Indian Trail Town Council unanimously voted to terminate the employment of Ed Humphries as Town Manager of Indian Trail on Wednesday evening, April 15, 2009. Council members stated although Mr. Humphries served the citizens and staff members of Indian Trail with professionalism, dignity and compassion over the past two and a half years, the current demands and issues facing our extremely fast growing and dynamic municipality require a move in a new direction. The Council wishes Mr. Humphries the utmost success in his future endeavors.
The Council is currently exploring options for an interim Town Manager which they hope to conclude as soon as possible.

Indian Trail Comprehensive Pedestrian Plan -
Attention walkers! Indian Trail now has a plan in place to improve and grow our pedestrian infrastructure. The Indian Trail Pedestrian Plan is a culmination of over a year's work of grant management, planning, and public participation. The adopted plan provides an existing condition overview, a proposed pedestrian infrastructure, and a collection of standards, potential funding sources and implementation strategies to increase and improve Indian Trail's pedestrian mobility.
