Indian Trail Town Council Gives Support For Kilah's Law
At their August 14 meeting, Indian Trail Town Council passed a resolution to give their support to the Justice For All Coalition in working toward its goal of the creation of Kilah’s Law. The law is named in honor of Indian Trail resident Kilah Davenport, a toddler who suffered injuries resulting in permanent damage while in the care of her step-father.
The group's plan for Kilah's Law is to raise the sentencing guidelines for a debilitating injury of a child to the higher classification of a felony. They want the sentence to be raised to a mandatory 25 years to life in prison. Once a convicted person serves their sentence, the group hopes to have them monitored for life, the same as a convicted pedophile.
