Town Council Takes Steps Toward Old Monroe Road Widening
On August 14 the Indian Trail Town Council took the initial step in planning for the widening of Old Monroe Road. Council directed staff to conduct a feasibility study as required by NCDOT in order to move forward on the project. The town will evaluate the road widening from Wesley Chapel-Stouts Road to South Fork Road. NCDOT is working on the widening from I-485 to South Fork Road for future widening.
The study will assess right-of-way needs, utility relocations, stream and wetland impacts, congestion management and relief, compliance with state transportation plans and preliminary cost estimates. The widening of Old Monroe Road will provide a benefit to the community by mitigating traffic congestion along the corridor, providing more economic development opportunities for Indian Trail and Union County, and adding to the quality of life for residents.
Town Manager Joe Fivas said, “Our Town Council believes from an economic and quality of life perspective it is critical for Indian Trail to build infrastructure improvements as soon as possible. This project is important for Union County and Indian Trail.”
