The Mayor'sTree Education Initiative Overview:
As a Tree City USA community, Indian Trail is charged with educating youth about the community’s tree canopy and the benefits associated with the community forest. In keeping with that directive, the Mayor's Tree Education Initiative has been designed to coordinate with fourth grade curriculum to help teach Indian Trail youth about the importance of the functions and benefits of trees in their community. The program will compliment Indian Trail’s annual Earth Day Arbor Day Celebration and Trash and Recycling Drop-off Day planned for April 21 and April 28 respectively.
The Initiative in Action:
- 4th grade students at participating schools attend a 45 minuted educational program.
-Students then help plant two 8" trees at their school.
-Each 4th grade student is given a seedling to plant in their community and encouraged to take a photo with their seedling.
-Students take the photo back to their school where it is displayed on their school's Community Forest Tree and receive a Mayor's Junior Forester Certificate.
