Park, Greenway and Tree Committee Tasks

Vice Chair: Planning Board Member
Desirable Qualifications: The Park, Greenway and Tree Board shall consist of seven (7) members of the public who will be appointed by and serve at the pleasure of the City Council. Members of the committee shall be qualified to plan, develop, and manage parks and greenways; and adjudicate tree related matters. At least one public member shall have a minimum of two years experience as certified arborists. At least one public member shall have a minimum of two years experience in park and greenway planning, development, or management, landscape planning or architecture, or conservation or preservation planning or development.
Terms of Office: Members shall be appointed for three-year staggered terms. Officers shall consist of a chairman and vice-chairman.
General Duties:
- Assist in the planning, development, and management of future public parks and a greenway system.
- Assist in the planning, development, and management of a tree preservation ordinance.
- Act as the decision making body in regards to decisions related to trees, parks and greenways.
- Advise, propose and make recommendations to Town Council in regards to trees, parks and greenway related matters.
Goals:
- To improve the quality of life through the preservation of natural resources and the development of a system of parks and greenways.
- To develop a tree preservation ordinance that will provide municipal authority over public trees.
- To develop a park and greenway plan.
