On Monday, February 6, the Parks Tree and Greenway Committee hosted a “Trees 101 Class” at the Union West Regional Library. The free class was part of the library’s afterschool program and was open for children ages 8-10. The class introduced kids to the importance of trees as it relates to their environmental benefits and everyday uses. The class included a field exercise where children explored trees around the library’s campus and identified habitats of plants and animals around and in trees. The class culminated in a game show-style quiz, testing children on their tree knowledge. Participants took home small trees to plant in their yards as well as other giveaways. The class was well-attended by about 17 children from public, private and home schools. |
