Indian Trail Winter Weather Alert

Indian Trail News Posted on January 22, 2026

Winter weather is heading for Indian Trail and much of North Carolina, with current forecasts calling for mostly ice and sleet in our area. The effects of the storm could span from Saturday morning (Jan. 24) through Monday afternoon (Jan. 26), with the potential for hazardous travel and power outages.

Prepare Your Home and Family

  • Prepare or restock your emergency kit with non-perishable food, water, medications, flashlights, batteries, blankets, and warm clothing.
  • Plan for possible multi-day power outages.
  • Charge devices.
  • Fuel vehicles and generators now.
  • If you have outdoor pets, bring them inside or ensure they have access to warm, dry, and draft-free shelter. Include pet supplies in your emergency kit.
  • Wrap any exposed pipes (pool noodles are a great, inexpensive option).
  • Let indoor faucets drip slowly overnight to prevent pipes from freezing.
  • Disconnect outdoor hoses.
  • Limit travel if possible.

Town Closures and Service Delays

Out of an abundance of caution, Crooked Creek Park will be closed on Sunday, Jan. 25, and Monday, Jan. 26. This proactive decision is being made to ensure the safety of our residents and staff.

The Indian Trail Town Hall will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26, and all programs scheduled for Monday have been canceled.

Due to expected icy conditions, Waste Connections will not run its routes tomorrow, Jan. 26. No solid waste or recycling/yard waste will be picked up. Waste Connections will operate on a one-day delay the remainder of the week.

Town Preparation

The Town’s Public Works crews have prepared several trucks with salt-sand spreaders ahead of the storm. The crews will pretreat Town-owned roads at key intersections, on steep hills, and at bridge and culvert crossings.

The Town will remain in constant communication with Union County Emergency Management and the Union County Sheriff’s Office throughout the weekend, and crews will be on-call if needed.

The Public Works crews will re-treat any areas of concern on Monday for the morning commute.

Stay safe and warm, Indian Trail!
